Dr. Mark Joseph M. Abaca is a cardiology fellow at the Philippine Heart Center. He earned his MD-PhD in Molecular Medicine from the University of the Philippines through a prestigious scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology. His doctoral research focused on the role of the gut microbiome in the risk of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, which he conducted as a visiting graduate researcher at the University of California Los Angeles. He later completed his residency in internal medicine at the Philippine General Hospital. His research interests span various aspects of atherosclerosis and peripheral vascular diseases.
